San Francisco, California, May 9, 1940, "Shipping day" in a navy enlistment office. These boys are being finger printed and signed up and will be shipped to San Diego within a few hours. Before being finger printed they are told to step out of line if they "think" they have a criminal record. This is their last chance to change their minds about joining the navy. Enlistment is for six years; it was raised from four years July 1, 1939.
