Yasha Frank of the Federal Theatre Project created and directed the stage version of Pinocchio. It was first presented by the children's unit of the FTP at the Beaux Arts Theatre in Los Angeles in 1937 where it played to a full house of both children and adults for over a year. The play attracted so much attention that Walt Disney and
his technical staff attended eight separate performances. Disney's next cartoon
feature? "Pinocchio," he announced.
