February 1939
"Toward a Harlem Document," 40 prints by the Photo League's Feature group, went on exhibition Saturday at the 136th St. YMCA (new building near 7th Ave.). This showing is sponsored by the National Urban League. At the close of the show on March 4th, these photos will be hung at the Harlem Branch Library on 135th St. According to Aaron Siskind, leader of the group, the purpose of showing these prints in Harlem first is to get the reaction of individuals and organizations so that the groups will have the advice and assistance of the people who live in Harlem. Later, the exhibition goes to the New School for Social Research. Photographers represented in the show include Lucy Ashjian, Harold Corsini, Beatrice Kosofsky, Richard Lyon, Jack Mendelsohn, Sol Prom and Aaron Siskind. The group can use an additional photographer or two. Those interested can apply at the Thursday night meetings of the Feature Group.
