Home Photo Gallery Classroom Documents PHOTO LEAGUE MEMBERS EXHIBIT AT FEDERAL ART GALLERY
October 1938 David Robbins and Arnold Eagle, whose series of photographs on housing conditions in the slum areas of New York City exhibited at the Federal Art Gallery have excited so much favorable comment in the press, are fellow-members of our organization. Inspired by the play "...one-third of a nation," Mr. Eagle and Mr. Robbins created a series of pictures showing present conditions in the Chelsea and East Side slum districts. The value of this series can further be gauged by the use being made of these photographs to build the movie sets for the film version of "...one-third of a nation," now in the process of production. Sol Libsoln, instructor of the workshop course in documentary photography given at the Photo League school, was also represented at this exhibition by a number of prints.
