Description : Lineman on telephone pole, with big umbrella shading him. (one of the current WPA "jokes" follows: "I didn't know they were usin' WPA labor on the Southern Bell Telephone Company. 'How's that,' Well, look at the fellow up there with an umbrella over him." Carbon Hill with a population over 2500 has just 71 telephones. The telephone office is in dilapidated condition, and because of this and the fact that the system is being changed to dial phone at present, officials would not permit photographs to be made."
