Description : Dr. George S. Gilder, city commissioner and physician for the Galloway mine: "I think WPA has saved our lives. It saved the lives of lots of people, or kept them from going hungry at least. There's an improvement to the general health of the community. It has helped them physically - they've kept themselves in better physical condition. Sealing up discharging mines and draining lakes have caused a decrease in malaria. We haven't had near the mosquitoes we would have had, since this sanitary drainage. And there's less malnutrition that there would have been."
