Description : The California Institute of Technology is operating a project with WPA labor, devoted to the purpose of finding practical uses for hormones and vitamins needed in plant growth similar to their value to humans. The spectacular results of Vitamin B-1 on root cuttings were discovered by this project. Former WPA worker, George C. Warner, employed on this project, subsequently opened his own business, which has proved to be very successful, and now has in his employ several people engaged in manufacturing Vitamin B-1 for use by plant trade. Photo shows WPA worker measuring stems of pea plants grown under laboratory conditions for study of plant growth vitamins. Cabinet in background holds nutrient mediums containing various vitamins for culture of isolated plant groups and other plant parts.
