Description : PWA is financing the construction of the first subway system in Chicago, a 7.7 mile double tube system consisting of two routes, State Street (Route 1) and Deerborn Street (Route 2). View of workers going under compressed air in lock on a section of the State Street route in North Clybourn Avenue. All tunnel work is under compressed air, ranging from 10-15 pounds pressure per square inch.
