Description : Sometime this summer (1938), officials of the Ouachita Tuberculosis and Public Health Association hope to open the new Cooley Sanitarium, constructed by WPA on the banks of the Ouachita River, at White's Ferry, a short distance from Monroe. The Sanitarium has been completed; the grounds have been beautified, and the institution is now practically ready for occupancy, adding valuable new hospital quarters to the state's modern hospitalization system. The $121,000 sanitarium was formally dedicated last June 18. It consists of two units--one for white and another for colored patients. It has 44 spacious and modern rooms, huge sun porches so arranged that patients get the maximum benefit from sunlight, and adequate laboratories and technical rooms. A bridge spans a small artificial lake on the grounds of the hospital.
