Going to Work in the Marshes
Location : Delta Refuge, LA
Description : From their "Quarter Boat" barracks, the WPA workmen go into the Delta Refuge marshes by power boat until the going becomes difficult. Then they transfer to smaller boats such as pictured above. Later, as the water grows too shallow for these boats, the workers transfer to pirogues, flat-bottomed craft, which are propelled by pushing with the poles. Listed Under:
