This class, with an average attendance of 22, is held in the Peabody Negro School, Petersburg, Virginia. The teacher, standing in left of the photograph, is Mary E. Releford, who has had a number of the pupils in this group under her care since January 1934, when the class first began. She reports having three pupils all illiterates when they enrolled, who have been absent only a few nights in four years, and that in another class held in the same school there is a pupil who has been absent only four nights in four years.
