    FIVE-POINT RECOVERY PROGRAM
    (Editorial)

    NOV. 28, 1937

  1. President Roosevelt makes public a five-point program for ending the business recession.

  2. Item--Stimulation of a boom in a large-scale house building, designed to increase construction expenditures as well as to provide work for more men.

  3. Item--Purchase of a quarter-billion dollars' worth of government supplies now instead of later, in order to redistribute large funds immediately.

  4. Item--Continuation of conferences with public utility executives with the view of forwarding growth of utility construction.

  5. Item--The submitting of a bill to congress, calling for a revision of the tax structure with probable emphasis on the so-called corporation profits tax.

  6. By the time your Sunday Journal-Gazette reaches you, you will probably have heard the reactions of business men to the president's program.

  7. This reactions should be favorable. They are indicative of the chief executive's interest in, and friendship for, honest business wherever it is to be found.
