International Roosevelt Resource Centers

Building on its experience in establishing the Roosevelt Study Center in the Netherlands, FERI has established a Roosevelt International Resource Center at Moscow State University. The Roosevelt Institute's objectives for the Center, and for three other centers being planned for sites in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, are to provide students and scholars with research materials on the Roosevelt period and to stimulate discussion of the programs and policies of the Roosevelt Administration in order to help other countries meet the contemporary challenges of building democracy, creating a national infrastructure, and meeting the social and economic needs of their citizens. The theme of the Four Freedoms will be reflected in the programs at each site.

FERI is equipping the Resource Center at MSU with a collection of books, videos, and other historical materials on the Roosevelt era and with computer access to the Internet where a growing body of primary source material on American history (including FERI's New Deal Network) can be found. Each year, FERI is sponsoring a Roosevelt Fellow who will spend 7-10 days at MSU working with students, lecturing and hosting symposia and public forums. Students, teachers, policy-makers, political leaders and members of the public will be invited to meet with the Fellow to examine the American economy, social fabric, media, and political landscape during the Roosevelt eras and to discuss the practical application of the Roosevelt legacy to current issues. FERI is also providing a Roosevelt Scholarship each year to a Russian student to enable him or her to pursue studies related to the Roosevelt era at the FDR Library in Hyde Park or the RSC in the Netherlands.

The other International Roosevelt Resource Centers being planned will feature similar programs and will be housed at major universities, research or policy centers.
