Evander Childs High School Murals Survey

Over the Summer the murals in the school library were recently cleaned and repaired. Art Students at Evander Childs will be creating a new set of murals in the hallway outside the Library. Another group of students will be building a website on the murals project. The Library murals have been very controversial. We want the students at Evander Childs to spend some time thinking about the original mural and also to give us some suggestions about what the new murals should show. Please take the time to fill out the following question sheet. Your thoughts and ideas are important.

About the James Newell Murals in the Library

  1. The library murals are called "The Evolution of Western Civilization." What did the artist think were important things to include about this subject? In your opinion, what did the artist leave out that was just as important?

  2. Explain your reactions to the Library Murals. Do you ever look at them? Are they confusing? Do they make you angry?

A theme or concept might be Immigration, Decades, Civil Rights, Teenage Life, Famous People and Events, Music, Sports or something else. Why is the theme you pick important?
