Newell Murals To Be Dedicated

Distinguished Guests Will Participate Nov. 9
October 26, 1938

Among the numerous events that will contribute to Evander's celebration of her 25th anniversary, importent and spectacular will be the dedication and first public exhibition of the completed murals in the school library. These murals in fresco, titled "The Evolution of Western Civilization," were conceived by James Michael Newell. The exercises will be held on the evening of November 9th.

Newell and Frescos in Film

Mr. Newell, the guest of honor, will interpret the film, "The Making of a Mural," which was shown throughout the United States, and was taken as Mr. Newell was doing his actual work on the panels in our library. In a report by the Federal Art Departments, Mr. Newell's project was noted as among the foremost in the category of school murals.

Prominent Guests Invited

Many eminent guests and speakers have been invited to greet the large assemblage of parents, students and teachers who are expected to participate in the celebration. Outstanding among the persons whose presence has been requested are Mrs. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Mayor LaGuardia, Superintendent Campbell, President Marshall of the Board of Education, and associates, Borough President Levy, Mr. Hoger Cahill of the National Directors of the Federal Project, and Dr. Graves of the State Department of Education.
