Monique Cleckley

My name is Monique and I'm a Senior at Evander Childs High School. I was selected to participate in mural class after school.

My first painting is "Fruit Man." The painting is a man made out of fruit. I was inspired by a man named Giuseppe Arcimaboldo. His paining is called "Summer." Mr. Arcimboldo has painted many other figures by drawing pots and pans and turning them into a man.

The next sketch is a boy (teenager). I drew him because a boy in my mural class inspired me. He inspired me because he is always wearing his hair not combed and has two earrings in his ear. The next sketch which is a girl is something like the boy. The girl is like the boy's twin. I call these two sketches "The Unknown Twins."

In the mural class I have learned how to resize my drawing into large art forms. I have learned from Mr. Vargo and Manny Vega to combine my colors and form a new color to bring my artwork out. This class has taught me how to communicate much better with people and to share my materials. I've learned to bring my are work to professional form and to my knowledge I was astonished to see that I have more talent than what I realized.
