Foggy Nights
-
Shepard Rifkin
January 1936
I like foggy nights, everything about them,
The dim grey luminosity of the sky;
And the lone sentinels of street lamps with pale halos.
Reflected on asphalt like wet ebony;
I like the whirring sound of rubber tires,
The damp smell of the fog,
And the thin drizzle of rain
So cool and refreshing against my wet cheek;
But above all I like the sense of intimacy,
The quiet friendliness of the fog,
In the silent reaches of the night.
