Between 1936 and 1943, thousands of dolls were made by women employed by the Milwaukee WPA Handicraft Project. The dolls brought joy to children in nurseries, schools, and hospitals. They are treasured today by doll collectors. |
Our thanks to Betty O'Sullivan, Mary June Kellogg Rice, and the Milwaukee Public Museum for sharing the story of the WPA Dolls with the New Deal Network. |
