WPA Dolls with Wooden Blocks

The Doll Unit of the Milwaukee WPA Handicraft Project was formed in 1936 under the leadership of Helen Clark, an experienced dollmaker.

By the end of 1936, the unit had a staff of 40 and was producing about 120 dolls a month. During its lifetime, 700-900 people were employed and thousands of dolls were made.
