Stop Throwing Pop Bottles at the Umpire!
Letters to President Roosevelt Concerning the Court Packing Proposal
Publishing Information

March 12, 1937

Dear Mr. President;-

The voters got a "crack" at the reactionary Hoover and Herbie is no more; likewise they retired Smoot, Fess, Reed of Pennsylvania, Hastings and others for the same reason, so why can they not have a voice in the retirement of McReynolds and several others.

They certainly did deliver a mandate to you to carry on the progressive work and while I am sorry in a way to say that the man in the street has a "lousy" opinion of the legal profession, nevertheless it is true and the fact that corporation lawyers are attacking your plan only makes it more solid with the man in the street and he spoke last November.

I am enclosing some propaganda received in connection with the court and from its contents one would think you want to abolish the "Great Tribunal". Go ahead; you are exceeding my fondest dreams and you are truly the greatest president ever and my only worry is where will we get a worthy successor to you.

Get on the radio and say "my friends and neighbors" and all your opposition will be retired next election in 1938.

Your ardent admirer,

C-- F-- H--
(Attorney at Law)
St. Louis Mo.

NOTE: GANNETT IS THE PROPAGANDA MENTIONED BY MR HILL ABOVE
